They invested years of their lives building from scratch a stunning three-story house in the Catskills that accommodated giant boulders in its interior. Once they were done with the time-consuming ceramic decoration of their new home they grew restless. Tired of the long cold winters and humid summers in Highland, NY, they began looking for a place in the sun. After a brief stay in Los Angeles they fell in love with the Mojave desert and decided to build a house with a view of a grand mountain. A New York based architect helped the couple design a stainless steel structure which was shipped to California by train and assembled on site, while the two men lived in a small trailer. It took almost a year to install the house on the ever-shifting sand dune they had inadvertently chosen as their foundation. In the meantime Maberry and Walker have planted their own glow-in-the-dark ceramic mushrooms in their sandy garden, and their charming porcelain creatures based on blow-up beach toys lurk everywhere. Curiously, their new home has the same modernist, elegant esthetic as their previous house.Add to Cart Add to Lightbox
